The Veterinary Department received the Official Dispatch No.1599/BNN-QLCL dated 08/6/2011 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on the adjustment of some contents in the Official Dispatch No.966/BNN-QLCL dated 14/4/2011 on the control of radioactive residues in food imported from Japan into Vietnam. To ensure the strict control of lots of imported food from Japan, the Department of Veterinary has the following opinions:
1. The units strictly implement the regulations on inspection of the radioactive contamination level in food as guided in the Official Dispatch No.1599/BNN-QLCL on 08/6/2011, the Official Dispatch No.966/BNN-QLCL of the Ministry of Agriculture Industry and Rural Development and the Official Dispatch No.673/TY-KD on 20/04/2011 of The Veterinary Department.
2. Sampling frequency to inspect the radiation levels is applied by each enterprise for the lots of goods registered for import at each border gate.
a) Sampling with frequency of 100% of the lots of goods originated from provinces Fukushima Prefecture, Ibaraki, Tochigi of Japan;
b) Sampling with frequency of 20% of the lots of goods registered for import (05 lots shall be sampled 01 for inspection) originated from other provinces of Japan;
3. Only allowed to complete the quarantine procedures for customs clearance of goods after the inspection of targets for food safety, radioactive pollution has been conducted and met the requirements.
Where contamination of radioactive substances is in access of the permissible maximum limit levels under the provisions of Circular No.17/2011/TT-BYT on 17/5/2011 of the Ministry of Health promulgating Provisions on radioactive contamination limit levels in foods (attached), it is requested the goods owners to implement the re-export of all goods out of the territory of Vietnam.
4. The units synthesize, report costs for taking samples, sending samples, analyzing samples and send to the office of Finance - Department of Veterinary prior to 25/06/2011 for synthesis to report to the Ministry.
During the course of implementation, if any problem arises, the units report in writing to the Department of Veterinary for handling timely./.
